The Township of Wilmot has declared a Significant Weather Event starting at 3:00 p.m. today (February 12, 2025) in response to forecasted conditions.
Declaring a Significant Weather Event is a way to tell the public to use extra caution when travelling, as it may take crews longer than usual to clear Township streets and sidewalks. Residents are asked to refrain from unnecessary travel while the Significant Weather Event is in place.
The public will be notified when the declaration is cancelled, and the Township will then resume maintaining the roads as directed by the Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards.
Declaring the end of the event does not mean roads and sidewalks are in good usable condition. It only means that the Township feels that the weather has subsided enough that regular maintenance timelines can be met.
In addition to the Significant Weather Event Declaration, the Township of Wilmot is also declaring a Snow Event starting at 11:59 p.m. All on street parking is prohibited during a Snow Event to allow plows to clear roads safely and efficiently. Vehicles parked on the street during the Snow Event may be ticketed and/or towed.
This Snow Event will remain in effect for 24 hours unless extended or cancelled.
The public will be notified of any extension or cancellation of the Significant Weather and Snow Events through the Township’s website (www.wilmot.ca/news), social media accounts (www.facebook.com/wilmottownship and www.twitter.com/wilmottownship), and local media channels.
Residents can register to receive email updates, as available, at www.wilmot.ca/subscribe.
Questions about the snow event can be directed to publicworks@wilmot.ca.
