The Township of Wilmot continues to work through the process of approving a municipal budget for 2025.
To date, Township Council has had three meetings to discuss the draft budget, which was released in December 2024. Council and staff have received significant input from the public since the budget was published.
Residents' feedback was top of mind at Council’s most recent meeting, which was held on January 16, 2025. This was an opportunity for Council to give staff direction on which items should be prioritized in the budget, and which should be removed or deferred.
Several new staff positions were removed from the draft budget during the meeting, bringing the proposed operating portion of the budget increase from 14% to 10.31%. Council also asked staff to prepare a report with further details about suggested increases to departmental operating budgets.
That report will be shared with Council prior to the next budget meeting, which is planned for January 27, 2025. Council will also deliberate on the capital portion of the draft budget during this meeting. At a proposed 36.87% increase, the draft capital funding represents the largest part of the budget.
Further information about capital budget requests is included in the Township’s draft 10-year capital plan, which Council will discuss at the January 27 meeting. This plan has been drafted to help Council determine where to allocate funding for 2025.
The January 27 meeting will start at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Township of Wilmot Administration Complex (60 Snyder’s Road West, Baden). Members of the public can attend the meeting in person or view it live on the Township’s YouTube channel.
Additional budget meetings may be added to Council’s schedule if further deliberations are required. Information about new meeting dates will be added to the Township’s website as they become available (www.wilmot.ca/budget). In the meantime, residents can share feedback about the budget by emailing budget@wilmot.ca.
