On September 30, 2019 Wilmot Township Firefighters participated in a two hour long accreditation process at 1788 Huron Rd. This accreditation process has certain criteria that the fire department must meet and abide to, for example, distance from a fire station and distance from a water source for filling water tanker trucks. A great deal of time and effort went into planning, training and eventual testing to ensure the best possible outcome. With this commitment from our firefighters we were able to achieve a commercial tanker shuttle accreditation status achieving a flow rate of 542 I.G.P.M. It is our responsibility as a fire department to provide the best possible fire protection for the residents of Wilmot Township and we have now achieved a large portion of that responsibility. Some rural residents and some business owners will now benefit from an insurance break through the Canadian Fire Insurance Grading Index.
Many insurance companies recognize the Tanker Shuttle Accreditation Certificate. Rural residences within 8 km of a fire station and rural businesses within 5 km of a fire station may receive a reduction in insurance premiums. Rural residents should contact their insurance agent and ask if they qualify for a rate reduction.
