The regulation and approval of telecommunication towers, antennas and related facilities falls under federal responsibility administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).
The Township of Wilmot follows the ISED standard protocol for review of telecommunication tower proposals. Along with the ISED protocol, the Township reviews proposals in the same manner as other site plan control projects including internal department and external agency review and payment of applicable review fees.
Public notification of tower proposals is provided by the tower proponent in accordance with the ISED protocol which includes written notification to property owners within 3 times the height of the tower. The Township requires that the proponent, at minimum, include all abutting property owners even if they are outside of this circulation radius. Township Council is also provided notice of new tower proposals
Following completion of the ISED protocol established consultation process, the Township may provide a letter of concurrence to the proponent once the proponent has summarized how any comments and concerns were addressed. ISED makes the final decision on tower proposals.
This section reflects proposals that had not received a letter of concurrence from the Township as of January 1, 2022.
